Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit educational site that explores gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths of women that exist in pop culture, she also works to address issues relating to gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people online. Holding a master's degree in social and political thought at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at the TEDxWomen Festival as well as the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. She was fascinated by feminist issues, gender and gender equality since a young stage of her life. When she graduated in 2009, in university she launched the Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to start an internet-based series on gender representation in games, and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminist are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in contemporary pop culture.
